What Affected On A Design Of Burj Khalifa

Frank Lloyd Write, an artist who was born in 1920, suggested a design to build a large skyscraper in Illinois. Even though this was only a suggestion and it never became reality, it had a huge influence on Adrian Smith who was responsible for the design and construction the Burj Khalifa. Write had several reasons for creating this building. Write’s idea was not well received during this period.

Burj Khalifa architects took up Write’s place, only in a different country and minimal changes to the build and purpose. This paper will discuss how Write’s proposed skyscraper influenced Burj Khalifa’s design. Also, how cultural factors affect the differences. Although the design for Chicago was the main influence, other regional influences were used to create this building’s architecture. To create the world’s highest building, much thought was given. The model was actually based on extensive research. Many components are very similar. Writes’ original design had a foundation with an enormous column. It was different from modern buildings. He hoped that he could define space in an unconventional way. These columns were designed to be an introverted tripod. All were anchored in the ground and included cantilevered floors. Write was committed to creating an environment that was as natural as possible. He designed the structure to resemble a tree’s trunk and branches.

This Illinois building was never built, as we have already stated. Write had however meticulously planned each part of the building. This demonstrates his passion for architecture as well as art. He had envisioned a tinted metal exterior for this building. This would highlight the angular backgrounds like balconies and Plexiglas, which allowed window glazing. The mechanical systems would be housed within cantilevered beams. These designs were futuristic in 1920s. He proposed an elevator system that could be automated and hold up to 100 people. Although there was much doubt and criticism, Write felt confident that the building would be feasible to construct. It was responsible, even though not built, for much of Burj Khalifa’s design (Mandour (2009)

It is hard to believe that the two designs can be independent. While there are many differences between the two designs, the main one is the Burj Khalifa’s construction nearly fifty-years after Write’s original architectural plan. The majority of unbuilt skyscrapers are not built and gain momentum. However, the builders who do make it to completion get much more attention. These cases should see both build and unbuild being awarded (Mandour 2009). The Burj Khalifa mirrors many of the implications that Writes Building Ideas has outlined. The Burj Khalifa is similar to the Illinois building. It also features a tree-like structure and system. Although the pillars extend deep into the ground and pose a threat to the environment, they were not intended for this large building in Dubai (Bedell (2010)).

Burj Khalifa’s official website says that the superstructure supports a large reinforced concrete matrix, which in turn is supported by bored reinforced cement piles. This design was created using extensive geotechnical-seismic studies. The mat has a thickness of 3.7 meters and was built in four separate pours using 12,500 cubic meter concrete. The longest and largest piles in the area are 1.5-meter wide by 43-meter long. To minimize the harmful effects of corrosive chemicals in local groundwater, a high-density, low-permeability concrete was used for the foundations.

Comparing the exterior and interior of the building reveal many similarities. The Burj Khalifa’s architects also used an impressive and ornate interior design. Write suggested reflecting glazing as a way to make the world’s tallest building more visible. Many panels and tubular flanges are used for stainless and texturized metals like aluminum. Each panel is unique and was individually designed (BurjKhalifa.ae 2017, 2017). Although Write did not provide exact numbers, we know that Write would have used similar-sized panels (Bedell.2010). Many of these components were also imported directly from China. The sole responsibility for the building’s success is not logical as many contributed to it.

This system reveals an interesting fact about the Burj Khalifa’s clad design. It is different from the model drawn by Write. Anyone who has ever been to Dubai, particularly in summer, will agree that there is one consistent conclusion. The extreme heat is what made the Burj Khalifa’s construction stand up to the high temperatures. These clads can withstand these high temperatures. For water and wind testing, an airplane engine from World War 2 was used. Burj Khalifa’s curtains wall can withstand the same amount of heat as nearly 25 American football field. These were unnecessary due to Illinois’s climate. These suggestions were limited to the Burj Khalifa as temperatures can reach more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit in Dubai. Specialized measures must be taken when considering such constructs (BurjKhalifa.ae,2017).

Each handcrafted design served a specific purpose. Write was looking to build a social and cultural building. While no one can enter Burj Khalifa’s doors, those who stay or live there have access to many amenities. The building remains a cultural icon. Tourists are drawn to the building’s exterior even though they do not have access inside. It is located right next to Dubai Mall, which features a water show for visitors. These water shows offer two options: one can stand and ride a boat or sit on the ground. The Burj Khulifa is the highlight of the event, but other beautiful sights are available. This show is something I’ve seen personally and I don’t have one complaint. This mysterious building houses the highest pool as well as the mosque. The majority of the population is Muslim, so the building has a strong cultural connection. You don’t have to go inside the Burj Khalifa for beauty and patience, to put it to the best possible use (Mandour, 2009).

As discussed earlier, there were many other influences that influenced the exterior design as well as the interior. Other influences include minarets (Bedell 2010,). Although minarets are not something that is commonly used, Muslims, like myself, know the terms. A minaret is an integral part of most Mosques. A minaret is the top of the tower that the morning prayers can be heard. To demonstrate the Burj Khalifa’s cultural and religious elements, this design was created. While this influence is minor, it is important because it has a significant impact on the entire world. This influence isn’t mentioned as often as Writes, which most people don’t know about.

Egyptian-inspired designs are popular in Burj Khalifa, as well the surrounding areas. Dubai is home for many Egyptians, including those who have immigrated from Egypt. Many Egyptians come to Dubai in search of better economic opportunities. Many Egyptian flowers can be found both inside and outside of this massive infrastructure. Flags and other ideas that are unique to each region are displayed outside the building during holiday and special events. Dubai is proud to have its Easter roots despite American influence and modernization (Bedell 2010,).

Let’s conclude that Write’s ideas for Sky-City were the biggest influence on this building’s design. These ideas were the inspiration for the building that became Write’s vision. It is the tallest building that can be used to allocate cultural and social entities. Write is a great idea. Without it, the Burj Khanafa would look very different. There are many reasons why people visit Dubai, but all of them are drawn to the Burj Khan. It is the world’s most visited building.
